Residents invited to attend public meetings on redistricting

Miami-Dade County is in the process of amending the Commission District boundaries to comply with federal, state and local requirements. The public is invited to participate in upcoming meetings to learn more and provide comments about the redistricting process.

Meetings will take place in each district between October 18 and 30. This portion of the redistricting process will conclude with four virtual regional meetings on November 6. Details for each meeting are available online under “Community Outreach.” Following the release of population data from the decennial U.S. Census, Commission District boundaries must be redrawn to apportion population relatively equally among each District.

For more information, visit the County’s redistricting webpage at or call 3-1-1.

Public meetings will be held throughout the county to provide information and receive input from the public regarding the local redistricting process. Please plan to attend an upcoming Community Outreach Meeting

As you can see from the maps I've included, a part of South Miami will be separated from the bulk of the City. The buildings along Bird Road will now be in District 6, while the rest of South Miami will still be in District 7. From the point of view of having our City well represented, it makes more sense to have the whole in one district.

The Zoom meeting about District 6 is tomorrow, October 7th at 6:00 pm. The one about District 7 is on October 26. To reach the Zoom meeting, click here.
