COUNTY MAYORAL CANDIDATES FORUM
Tomorrow, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, the seven candidates for Miami-Dade County Mayor will be participating in a zoom debate. Who becomes mayor is important to the City of South Miami. Last night, under Carlos Gimenez's leadership, the Commissioners voted to share only 6% of the CARES funds that the Federal government had given to the County for COVID-19 relief. The U. S. Government gave the County one of the biggest shares of the CARES relief funds with the understanding that the funds would be shared with smaller units of government. The population of the all the cities in Miami-Dade amounts to 57% of the total. The difference in the amount of CARES funds that South Miami may get is the difference between $912, 021 and $135,000. The Commissioners voted for the plan that the Mayor sponsored.
